A very disappointing visit  in September 2008 to one of the most remote Khmer sanctuaries was our trip to Prasat Khao Noi in Sa Kaeo province on the border of Cambodia. Not only did we drive all day, we also beat a thunderstorm and left out some wonderful thai temples along the way to make it to this border temple. We also climbed up 254 steps to the top of the mountain only to be greeted by an official who told us that non-Thai's (western-looking) cannot take pictures here due to the border dispute with Cambodia. A group of Thai TAT visitors had no problems to take pictures at the same time. The military official even walked up and around the temple with us to make sure we do not take any pictures. 

 The standard 3 tower sanctuary is located on the top of a hill (khao noi) and has several interesting lintels (replicas)  and dates back to 637 A.D.
