Ku Ban Daeng
Ku Ban Daeng came completely unexpected on our
route as we got lost and zigzagged through the central Isan provinces on the way
to Roi Et. The 13th century Mahayana Buddhist sanctuary is located in Wapi
Pathum district of Maha Sarakam. The temple sits in a grassy environment
which is almost too wet to talk without knowing what animal waits for you around
the corner. So, we didn't get into every room of it. However, the real
attraction is a lintel which shows Buddha, who is sheltered by a Naga in the
middle of the scene. Several interesting artifacts found here are now located in
museums.
