Um Thomo

This temple site has several names. Um Tomo, Huei Thamo, Oumuong, Um Muang are the ones we came across. More problematic was that our Lao driver could not read Lao writing and had no idea where it was located, despite having agreed to drive us here. A true adventure!

The site today is completely overgrown with trees which gives it a special atmosphere. It is located right at the river and local guides bring tourists here by boat. There were several naga stones and some stone pediments to the side of the western doorway. Some of the towers which were part of this site have collapsed and the only remains are one building, a few walls and a stone stairway into the river.  It is not as exciting as visiting Wat Phu but it is a nice addition to the whole trip.
